# Set up Radar

> Set up Radar from your website or a description, why setup can be refused, and when the first search starts.

Use this page to start Radar in a workspace that doesn't have one, or to find out why you can't.

Setup takes two steps: tell us what you sell, then check the brief we write. Nothing is sent to anyone. There is no preview search: the first real search is your preview.

## Who can set it up

Owners and admins of a workspace can set up Radar, on any plan. Each workspace has one Radar.

Other members see "Only owners and admins can set up Radar. Ask one of them to do it."

## Set it up

**1. Open setup**

Open **Sources** and press **Set up Radar**.

**2. Tell us what you sell**

Enter **Your website** and press **Continue**. We read the site and suggest who to look for. No website? Press **No website? Describe what you sell** and write a sentence or two instead.

**3. Check your brief**

Under **Here's who we'll look for**, click any underlined part to change it, or tell us what to change in words. Your changes save as you go. You need what you sell, who buys it and where.

![Set up Radar page showing the brief in six parts and the Start Radar button](https://mintcdn.com/b2-b-signals-llc/u5yYe4FZtFc5vtD_/images/sources/radar-setup-brief.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=u5yYe4FZtFc5vtD_\&q=85\&s=7bf8ff4e9c1a64edb15939eb2be0daf1)

Step 2 of 2: the brief, the plan's limits and Start Radar.

**4. Press Start Radar**

Press **Start Radar**. The screen tells you when the first search starts. **Got it** closes the message.

If you leave, you can come back: we keep your draft for 30 days.

### If we can't read your site

You see **We couldn't read that site**. Tell us in one line what you sell, or press **Try the site again**.

### Limits on writing a brief

| What | Limit |
| - | - |
| Writing the brief from a website or description | 5 times in 24 hours, 10 times in all |
| Changing the brief in words | 20 times per draft |
| Changing the brief by hand | No limit |

When you reach a limit, the screen tells you, and you can still change the brief by hand.

## What your plan gets

The **What your plan gets** card shows your limits before you start. See [How many people Radar finds](https://docs.b2bsignals.ai/sources/radar.md#how-many-people-radar-finds).

If your workspace is on an older free plan, a note appears before you start: "Starting Radar moves this workspace to the Free plan, with its Radar limits. On Free, campaigns don't launch and nothing is pushed to your other tools until you upgrade."

Looking at the setup page doesn't move your workspace. Only **Start Radar** does.

## Why setup can be refused

The page shows **Radar can't be set up yet** and one of these reasons.

![Radar can't be set up yet, with the reason about the last payment and an Open billing button](https://mintcdn.com/b2-b-signals-llc/u5yYe4FZtFc5vtD_/images/sources/radar-setup-refused.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=u5yYe4FZtFc5vtD_\&q=85\&s=4e94ba5637c2f9ef3354e85a7e04beb4)

Setup refused after a failed payment. Open billing leads to the fix.

| What you see | Why | What to do |
| - | - | - |
| "This workspace's plan was canceled. Choose a plan to turn on Radar." | The plan isn't active | Press **Open billing** and choose a plan |
| "Your last payment didn't go through. Fix it in Billing, then set up Radar." | A payment failed | Press **Open billing** and fix the payment |
| "This workspace is on an older free plan that doesn't include Radar. Choose a plan in Billing to set up Radar." | The older free plan doesn't include it | Press **Open billing** and choose a plan |
| "This workspace has a plan our team set up by hand, so Radar can't be turned on from here. Contact us and we'll do it." | Your plan is managed by our team | Contact us |
| "This workspace still has a subscription on file, so we can't move it to the Free plan for you. Contact us and we'll sort it out." | Moving to Free would conflict with the subscription | Contact us |
| "This workspace has outreach set up or running, and the Free plan holds all sending, so we can't move it to Free for you. Contact us and we'll sort it out." | Free would stop your sending | Contact us |
| "Radar can't be set up in this workspace." | This workspace can't have a Radar | Contact us |
| "This workspace already has a Radar." | Each workspace has one | You go to the Radar page |

These can appear when you press **Start Radar**:

| What you see | What to do |
| - | - |
| "Add what you sell, who buys it and where before we start" | Fill in the missing parts of the brief |
| "Your plan just changed. Reload the page and try again." | Reload and press **Start Radar** again |
| "We couldn't set up Radar. Try again." | Nothing was made. Press **Start Radar** again |

## When the first search starts

After you press **Start Radar**, you see one of these.

| Message | What it means |
| - | - |
| "Radar is set up and searching now. The first people show up on the Radar page in a few minutes." | The search started |
| "Radar reads LinkedIn only during set hours, so your first search starts tomorrow morning." | The search is booked. The words show the real time, such as "on Monday morning" |
| "Radar is set up and waiting in line behind other new Radars. It starts by itself, expected on" followed by a date | See below |
| "Radar is set up. There is nothing to search for right now, so it searches again on its next day." | For example, a Free workspace whose week is already full |
| "Radar is set up. The first search could not be queued just now, so it starts on its next search day." | Not an error. Nothing to do |

After the first search, Radar follows your plan's search days. See [Radar](https://docs.b2bsignals.ai/sources/radar.md#how-many-people-radar-finds).

## Why the first search can wait

There are two reasons.

**It waits for the right hours.** Radar's status shows **Search scheduled**, and the page says when it starts. You don't need to do anything.

**It waits in line.** Only a limited number of new Radars start each day. Past that limit, trial and Free workspaces wait in order and start by themselves. The status shows **Waiting to start**. The date shown is an estimate.

* Paid plans never wait in this line. If you upgrade while waiting, Radar starts without waiting.
* There is nothing to resume. If you try, you see "Radar is waiting in line behind other new Radars. It starts by itself, nothing to resume."
* If a payment fails while you wait, Radar tells you to fix it in Billing. It starts by itself at the next daily start after that.
* If the plan is canceled while you wait, Radar stops waiting and stays paused.

## If the first search finds nobody

Check the reason on the Radar page. See [What the empty states mean](https://docs.b2bsignals.ai/sources/radar.md#what-the-empty-states-mean).

If Radar couldn't search LinkedIn, the search says why, and the reason isn't your brief:

* "it searches only during set hours each day and none were open". Radar retries a first search once, unless your Free week is already full.
* "it had reached its daily LinkedIn limits". The next search runs on its next search day.

For every message, see [What the empty states mean](https://docs.b2bsignals.ai/sources/radar.md#what-the-empty-states-mean).

## What to do next

* Check the [**Brief**](https://docs.b2bsignals.ai/sources/radar.md#change-your-brief). You can edit it at any time.
* Choose [**Where new people go**](https://docs.b2bsignals.ai/sources/radar.md#where-new-people-go).
* When people arrive, [review them](https://docs.b2bsignals.ai/people/review.md). They wait in **To review**, and no campaign receives them on its own unless a route is set.
